A PSCORE source reports that a couple specializing in stealing bikes was executed at the Sinpung Stadium in Wonsan City in late June of this year. The man was a married 44-year-old, while the woman was around 35 years old and unmarried, but the two seem to have been in a common-law marriage.

The two are said to have wandered around Wonsan, Hamheung, Chongjin, and other areas, looking to steal bikes. This went on for 4 to 5 years, and 50 people were victims in that time span. Of the victims, 10 died and 40 got injured.

Their method consisted in waiting for a bicycle to go by and knock the rider unconscious with an oak stick, allowing them to get the bicycle and sell it. The execution is said to have been carried out to set an example to the recent surge of robberies nationwide, presumed to be due to worsening social conditions.

The couple’s activities were initially limited to Wonsan City, but, as police investigations drew close, they expanded their operations to Hamheung and later to Chongjin, where they were caught. The two were sent back to Wonsan City, where they were executed at Sinpung Stadium in front of countless citizens of Wonsan.
