An information meeting reiterating a recent government ban on the drug diazepam was held for members of the labor force in Musan during the evening hours of August 9, a PSCORE source recently reported. The meeting emphasized the strict punishment befalling those caught manufacturing diazepam, a drug widely in use in the country as a sleep-inducer.
The ban had been announced publicly half a month earlier, but it was not until now that posters with information about the ban started to be posted in railway stations and other public areas.
North Korea’s food prices have gone through little dramatic change in the past few days. One kilogram of rice is priced between 1,100 to 1,150 won, while one kilogram of corn is priced between 650 to 700 won. The currency rate against 100 yuan is 22,800 to 23,000 won.
Electricity in Musan is supplied in the morning hours from 1 to 5 a.m. Sources indicate that use of voltmeters are common by many families to help raise the voltage needed by each household. Most people use batteries or chargers during the night to charge the electricity needed for the day time.
